Dog Semen Freezing and Artificial Insemination (AI)
Vet Marlborough offers professional canine semen collection, freezing, storage, and insemination services. Using advanced reproductive techniques and pre-insemination progesterone blood testing, our experienced team helps maximise conception success rates.
We perform artificial inseminations using fresh, chilled, or frozen semen, following the latest international best practices in canine reproduction.
AI with freshly collected semen is generally performed using a specialised Mavic catheter, depositing the semen in the vagina adjacent to the cervix. TCI can also be used to deposit semen inside the uterus. Successful pregnancy is achieved in greater than 90% of cases.
The timing of insemination using frozen semen is more critical than with fresh semen, as the semen does not live as long, and the semen dose is generally smaller.
