Surgical Pain Management
At Vet Marlborough, your pet’s comfort before, during, and after surgery is a top priority. Pain relief may include:
Injections of morphine or other opioids, epidurals, nerve blocks, or local anaesthetic at the surgical site.

Trocoxil – The Once-Monthly Treatment For Arthritis in Dogs
Trocoxil is an innovative arthritis treatment for dogs, offering continuous pain relief with just one dose a month. This long-acting NSAID for dogs works like Rimadyl, Metacam, or Previcox but provides consistent joint pain control, helping slow arthritis progression. Continuous pain management reduces inflammation, protects cartilage, and helps your dog stay active and comfortable for longer.

Some Important Points About Using Trocoxil
- To ensure your dog gets the full benefit of Trocoxil arthritis treatment, always give the tablet with a complete meal. This helps your dog absorb the medication properly and enjoy a full month of pain relief. Giving Trocoxil with only a small treat is not enough.
- After the initial dose of Trocoxil for dogs, a second dose is given 14 days later to ensure therapeutic levels are reached in the tissues. After that, Trocoxil is administered once a month for five more doses. It’s important to then allow a one-month break before starting a new treatment cycle. This pause prevents the medication from building up above safe therapeutic levels. Most dogs continue to experience effective arthritis pain relief during this “month off” period and don’t require additional medication. However, some dogs may need temporary daily NSAID treatment during this time to remain comfortable and pain-free.
- As with all NSAID treatments for dogs, routine blood monitoring is recommended every six months. This helps ensure safe Trocoxil use, as liver or kidney disease can affect how the drug is cleared from the body, sometimes requiring dose adjustments or discontinuation.
- Trocoxil for dogs has an excellent safety profile similar to other NSAIDs. However, as a precaution, it should not be used in breeding, pregnant, or lactating bitches, in dogs under one year of age, or in dogs with heart, liver, kidney, or gastrointestinal disease.
